Commitment and Brotherhood: Strengthening Community Bonds

“It’s five minutes before Nine and I began to hear a series of soft thuds and gentle whumps as doors are closed and locked, indicative that everyone is already out for the Saturday mid-morning affair. With each one holding their grass pruning sickle, they begin to roll up their sleeves and scurry off toward the agreed place for manualia. This time, everyone is set to clear the pathways around the farm.

Upon arrival, the work begins. And in the spur of the moment, everyone is starting to perspire profusely. Under the scorching heat of the sun, I can actually see the glistening beads of sweat trickling down from each one’s forehead as they prune the grasses, pull dried banana leaves, cut vines and tendrils, uproot unwanted plants and bushes and unclog the drain. It surely is a huge work but everyone is on their feet working hard together to get the task done.
